Is it sterling silver?
Hi,

Have just received a 16's case with the markings "FAHYS" ORE-SILVER. Is this 925 silver or mix? No mention in Shugart.

Hello Carlos,

Any case you see marked with names like "Silveroid" or "Silverine" or in this instance "Ore-Silver" are in actuality nearly devoid of silver. In reality they are nickel cases, there may be other metals alloyed in small amounts but they are essentially nickel through and through, no plating or layering involved, just polished nickel. For that reason they are about the most durable watch cases ever made. Deep scratches can be sanded away and the case re-polished to a like-new sheen or brilliant shine.

As the government required content markings by the early 1920s cases like these would finally carry simply "Nickel" in place of the previously misleading names.

Hope this helps,

Lindell
