Roddy J. BruntonMAKER OF EATON HIGH GRADE SCREW-SET JEWEL POCKET WATCH MOVEMENTS?
THESE ARE HIGH END MOVEMENTS WITH THOSE SCREW-SET JEWELS, BUT I AM NOT SURE WHO MADE THEM FOR EATONS? THOUGH THE PATTERNS ON THE PLATES ARE DIFFERENT, I THINK THEY ARE THE SAME MAKER?
SERIAL NUMBERS ARE 129792 & 136108
SORRY ABOUT THE PICS, I DON'T HAVE THE WATCHES YET

David AbbeThe regulator arm says it all. I restored a 21J version of this which proved to be quite valuable. Omega?

Theodore J. Brown Sr.Roddy, Those were made by Gallet, they resemble 1892 Walthams, the 16s ones kind of look like 1899-08 model Walthams. They are really nice movements!

Bill MandersRoddy,
I also believe they were made by Gallet.
I have one the same, although they met RR Grade, I have found nothing to say they were approved anywhere.
Well made Swiss watch, great timekeepers.

David AbbeThe obligation to certify that a watch passed RR standards was ultimately that of the RR watch inspector. A list of "approved" watches was produced in the later and going into the 20th Century, but this was to guide those BUYING watches for RR use.
I invite further comment on this subject because there are too many watches I have worked on which may NOT have been on an "approved" list but were certainly used on the RR.

Bill MandersDave,
I agree 100% with your comments, this is a topic which I have had many times, and particularly with the swiss watches, that were made for the Canadian RR's. In so far as the Gallets made for Eatons, the mention for RR use, was only made by Gallet itself with the Interocean model, but as you say, if the local inspector found it acceptable, then he would allow it into use. I have had many conversations, with many folks, far wiser than I, and find the topic to be quite devisive, but all have their own opinion on the matter. I have also spoken with some of the watch inspectors from the past, and they would confirm your and my arguments on acceptability. Like you I would like further conversation on this topic, as it has always been one of interest to myself.

Bill MandersHi Roddy,
I have seen that on the Gallet website. I could not tell by the pictures if yours was marked Interocean, or not. I also did a fair amount of research on this watch to see if it was ever mentioned to be approved by Canadian RR, and as yet have found nothing, but as stated earlier it could often depend on the inspector. This also could have been a little puffery by Gallet, I just can not find it either way. I will say that mine is a 21j adj 5 pos., but not marked Interocean. I feel they are RR in all aspects, but, who knows for sure.

Lorne WasylishenI have looked through these
Eaton's Catalogues and found no mention of Gallet.
Have a look, I could have missed something, the review of each catalogue tells you which pages the pocket watches are on.

Nick SidorHi, all.
I have SN 165838. 17j, not marked Interocean, but "adjusted" and I dated this to 1910 - 1920 but don't remember how.
It lives in an Illinois Watch Case Co., of Elgin, Illinois "Winner" case.
