Gary E. FosterElgin hairsping ID
I need help identifying this Elgin part. It's a hairspring, appears to be at least a size 16.
Label reads
EL 1751-16 No. 3, Spring, Hair complete, DA 36-038-ORD-13972. Can anyone help identify what this may fit.

Jerry KingGary, Elgin master parts list does not have a #1751 Hair Spring that I can find....There are many for size 16 and with #3 strength but none have the EL part # 1751....nor Spring, Hair Complete....the ones listed are Springs, Hair - Colleted & Springs, Hair, Breguet....
The second part number is probably a military because of the 'ORD' ID....
Now, Elgin could have made a part with your description and supplied it only to the Military for the watchs that were made and shipped to the Military....I don't know if a special part would have shown up in their standard parts manual....
Maybe someone else can give us more information than I have been able to find....
Regards,
Jerry

Cecil McGeeI think it is a military supplied part no. I have some crystals in boxes marked Ord. Dwg. No.A-7198396 Watch, pocket,Elgin. Date packed Sept. 1950. Somewhere I'll bet there is a list for these military watch parts.

Gary E. FosterThanks Jerry and Cecil, You are most likely right about this being a military part. I didn't notice that there are markings stamped on the sides of the box. One is an anchor with US, the other is a circle, resembling a compass, and June, 1953. On the back is stamped CHOD. There is also a label from S. LaRose, Box 21208, Greensboro, N.C. 27420 and the numbers 03-4256.

Cecil McGeeHey Gary, Now you may be getting somewhere. I don't have mine anymore, but someone may still have an old LaRose catalog, and be able to reference that part number. In fact,Cas-Ker Co. bought most of LaRose inventory and they might be able to identify that part. Their number is 1800 487 0408.
