Donnie Tackett992B Gold Center Wheels; Is It the older Gold Plated Or Is It A Newer Brass One?
Hi,I have been reading alot of the posts on the 4 different signatures or types and also about the gold center wheels of the 992b's. First, for all the people like myself who does not or did not know the different types or signatures of the 992B's, the first link below is a very good post by Edward Parsons on the 992B types (or signatures) and the dates that apply to each.
https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...=474105801#474105801I also read in a post by President Riddle (see link below, info at bottom of that link) where a 992B serial# 118604 has a gold plated center wheel and a 992b with serial# 118979 has a non gold plated center wheel (polished brass). The difference being about 375 production #'s apart.
https://ihc185.infopop.cc/eve/f...=630102099#630102099I have said all that to ask this: How do I, as a new collector, know which is gold plated or which is brass? Knowing the above serial#'s will give me a fairly close window to know which is, and which is not, but is there a visual observation that tells the tale?

Thanks,
Donnie

Michael Logginsgold appears smooth/polished while brass appears rough. It is apparent in the four examples shown in your post - the upper left is an obviously gold/polished example. Hope that helps.

Edward L. Parsons, Jr.There's also a differences in the color, the "highly polished gold (plated) center wheel" has more of a copper color, where the brass version simply looks like brass.

John J. Flahive IIIThe gold center wheel will look different than the other wheels. If it looks the same as the other wheels then it is brass.
To my eye the brass wheels look more yellow instead of gold.
