Swiss Repro Dial?
I have been told that Hamilton had the Swiss make this dial in the sixties. As you can see it is porcelain.

Is that correct??

Thanks for any help.

Regards.
Larry

Interested in what the experts have to say. I never heard that plus I would think if Hamilton contracted to have it made it would still be considered original wouldnt it, no matter who made it and not be considered a repro.

The dial came from a Swiss Hamilton that was a reissue authorized by Hamilton. You see then on Ebay from time to time. I have had/seen some over the years and the distinguishing thing that it has is the black ring where the double sunk should be and it is unsunk. It is of porcelain.

Interesting Buster I have had those reproduction swiss made Hamiltons and they always seemed a tiny bit smaller unless they made different sizes. So the feet pattern on the dials are the same???

I've only had the dials, not the complete watch. I believe they may have come off some of the Swiss made "971" models that were a 23Jewel watch but that is only a guess since I haven't had a completed one to check it out.

There were some "mail order" watches in magazines that were prevalent in the 80's & 90's, but those were a 17Jewel watch and were called various things such as "Sunshine Limited" etc. etc. I believe they were a bit smaller and I would guess that they may have only had two feet dials.

It looks exactly like the melamine #379 except that it's not melamine.

Thanks Buster, I had a feeling. That is about what the person told me, but I didn't get it right, so I appreciate you setting the record straight.

When I first started this I did buy a couple of the Swiss 971's but they had painted brass dials.

Krister, all I can think of when I look at it is the Waltham Vanguard 23 jewel dials with the painted rings.

Yes, Larry, you are spot on there, but I was referring to the layout and type font which is a dead ringer for the Hamilton #379.

I see your point Krister. They did a really nice job on it for sure.

With all the bad Melamine dials I sure could use a few of these porcelain replacement dials!! Everyone like to hear Porcelain if it a replacement dial, and that is just not what is out there. Frown
