Quality for the Price of Scrap--bargains still available.
Although I am showing a Swiss watch I put it here to try to show that relative bargains are still available.

In my opinion the watch went for a reasonable
price due to the lack of name recognition among US collectors and a bad dial. The dial can be refinished for $50 to $75.

My purchase was a 12 size Ekegren (made by Koehn for Caldwells of Philadelphia)in a 14 kt case for $480--not much more than the scrap value.

At one time both Edward Koehn and H R Ekegren were associated with Patek Phillipe and made very high quality watches. Ekegren joined with F Koehn in 1891 and watches were made under both names until 1931.

Even with someone else using the Koehn name(this watch was probably made in the early 1940s) they still made very high quality watches. Caldwells was the Tiffany of Philadelphia and sold the best money could by.

My final comment is that there are some wonderful watches out there if you get off the beaten path a little.
