Wish list of watches for 2015
What is on your watch wish list for 2015. After about 20 years of collecting watches I will be trying to add watches to my collection that I do not have an example of. My first one this year is a Rockford marked 545 from Buster Beck.

Last year I set my sights on a Ball-Elgin, with no success until suddenly 2 appeared within 2 weeks. This year, the elusive Ball-Illinois (that I can afford...)

Failing that...something from the 1860s.

Tony that is a pretty tall order. I've only seen 2. Here is a link to them.

I got one of my wishes recently. I purchased an Elgin Ball at a reasonable price. Now to the other 2 wishes.

I had an offer for the 163 that was reasonable but I just could not pull the trigger on it. Being on a teacher's pension, I have to pick and choose what pocket watch suits my budget. Thanks for the offer!!!

First item on my current wish-list should not be too difficult as something like 5,000 were produced. Here goes, would like to find a nice Hamilton 937 to complete my collection of 18-size Hamilton Railroad Watches, this is the only one I do not yet have. Those showing up on eBay have been a little too rough for my liking and since this is a hole I would like to fill I am willing to pay whatever it takes or perhaps come up with an appropriate trade for a nice example.

So, let us see what is available among our members.

I thought that one of wishes would be fulfilled. I ordered an Ball Elgin grade 333 pocket watch last week. I get the watch today and it is not what I saw in the photos or in the description. The old saying is always true: You get what you paid for!! I am returning the watch tomorrow and have learned a valuable lesson. Being 65 years old, I still have much to learn.

Being that I live in Albany, I wouldn't mind finding a Charles Fasoldt at a garage sale (I know, keep dreaming, hahaha).

My wish list for today. I am looking for a heavy 18 size case that is marked Alaska Silver. I picked up one from Phil that is marked Alaska Metal.

I've been thinking I might cave up mu pennies and see if I can find a nice example of an English verge fusee PW in decent condition. I had one that was made in Liverpool, in which I repaired the barrel and chain hook, but lost it a few years ago, when I lost my house to foreclosure. (All my stuff went into storage, and because I was still out of work, couldn't maintain the storage unit monthly fees.)

Here's a photo of the barrel after I drilled a new hole, and attached the chain to it, Before I cut the pin to length.

Received my Alaska Silver from our own Gary Cochran. Also found that the huge cases marked Alaska Silver were contracted by Sears, Roebuck, & Co. with a case maker in the 1902 Catalogue. You could get a marked Alaska silver case with a 7 jewel Trenton Watch Co. movement for $2.40. and the American made watch was guaranted by Sears for 5 years.

Being new to pocket watch collecting I told myself I would stick to one brand, I chose Hamilton. ( probably because I found one in a pawn shop and it said railway special, and everyone loves railroads.....) Now that I am Four Months into the hobby (does that make me an expert?) I have taken a liking to 18 size watches. I find myself drawn to Illinois 24j Bunn Specials, 18 size.
I know next to nothing about them and am reading Ed's posts.
I am leaning towards a wear watch, one with some case wear but with a great movement. I would like correct dial, hands, and case. This is to protect the criticle collector when he asks to see my watch and he has un-asked for criticle comments...
Since I cannot compete knowledge wise I may end up kicking him or something....
Anyway, I degress...I will watch and hope one comes up on auction on this site. As always, it must be a good value and affordable. That is my watch wish list for 2015!
