Hampden 18s 21j Two-Tone... Stuck to me!
Well, this watch was supposed to be sold (twice); however, after a closer inspection it would not run in all positions. Therefore, had to dive deeper to see what was wrong.

Gave Eugene Buffard a shout! Hey Gene... Wanna give me a hands on class for replacing a balance staff? Gene replied come on down...

So, not only were both pivots bent, but take a look at the picture below Mad

I am no watch expert, but I have never seen a hairspring that was held to a balance staff via shelac.

Note the missing portion of the collet and the "puddle" of shelac on top of the remaining collet

With a new balance staff and a replacement hairspring - Gene saved another watch...

Smile

Good Job - Gene!

And now it must be placed in the keeper bin.

Shellac, the "Superglue" of the 1890's! Great teamwork! Great Save, Super Watch!

Thanks David...

You hit on the shelac vs superglue, again. I think is so funny. They both hold "stuff" together.

This is the 2nd watch Gene has helped me save, and both of the watches are still tucked away in my secret stash.
