Questions about a ladies pocket watch
First post - so great to find such a thorough knowledge base.

I have a neighbor who is 100 years old and has asked me to help her to find values on some older items - this is the first of two pocket watches she wants help with.

Elgin Serial Number : 3101698
Case Number : 1695770

The watch is missing the glass bezel an the hour and minute hands. I understand that the case is gold filled - just wondering if this piece has any value at all.

Lorri, according to the serial number this is a 0 size (zero size) 11 jewel and not an uncommon watch at all. These have some value to collectors who collect smaller pocket watches. My experience is that since the case is pretty nice case it would go for around $50 to $100 on the popular auction site online. A lot of value is in scarcity and condition and is quite subjective. I don't see any extraordinary value here. It's a nice old watch but not one collectors are apt to jump through the screen to acquire. That is only my take and I'm not an expert in any subject.

agree with Mike on value
case looks good, and the case paper will give you
some extra $ as is nice feature to have to some collectors.
what you have is 11 jewels size zero movement made in 1889

The dial is a huge factor. Simple, with lines? or fancy? No lines? That can make a huge difference.

Thanks so much for this information - that's about what I was thinking and a local jeweler who said he was no expert on watches told me he thought unless there was something rare or collectible about it his guess was $50.00. The face is pretty plain - I'll post a pic, I didn't get a great shot of it. I think there may some parts like a fob and chain that go with it, so perhaps it is best that she sell the pieces together.
