SMITHS MKII Mod. 6A/579 8 DAY - Balance STAFF specifications "Click" to Login or Register
posted
Hello,
I have a 8 day SMITH 6A/579 8 DAY cockpit clock (1940) with unfortunately (and it is common) a broken balance staff.
Maybe someone was already facing this problem.
Someone would tell me if there is a reference RONDA or BEST FIT the closest to reassemble it?
Or, maybe someone knows where one can find equivalent balance regulated.
Thanks in advance for your help,

Bestfit # for a "Smith 8 day clock" is 100/1871
Rare bird.
Bestfit dimensions only give, overall as 760 and the balance diameter as 100

Hi Melvin,
Thank you for your quick reply. I do not think that's the right direction. Indeed in the Bestfit part. 1, the N ° 1871 is mentioned for the 8 DAY SMITHS but the reference to the descriptive page of the movement does not give the good image (page 361). it looks more like a wall clock movement than an aircraft movement clock
By the way, the broken axis measures 590 (100th of MM) which could give unbroken around 630

Can you give me a view of the dial side, that model Smith's carried a Jaeger Lecoutre movement in a lot of cases although they weren't marked as such?

It is a Smith's Mk II, they used an unmarked LeCoultre 7 Jewel Caliber 201 movement that is a bezel wind type, same movement that LeCoultre used in their "model 201" 19 lignes.

Dimensions:- Overall 6.48mm long, balance seat diameter 1.10mm, hairspring seat .72mm, roller table seat .62mm

A very big thank you Bila for this very precise return. This should help me greatly to repair this clock.
Do you still want a picture of the other side of the clock?

By the way, Hugues Martz, welcome to the forum! I hope you will post an image of the clock when you are done restoring it.

I see you are in Paris, France. Are you also a member of forum-a-montres (FAM)?
