George Graham gold casing project "Click" to Login or Register

posted
Hi,

I am new to chapter 185 and I am told that there are some members here with an interest in verge fusee watches and projects.

I thought that the "restoration project" area would be the best place to share the details of my ongoing results in producing a set of three new gold cases from scratch to house an early George Graham verge movement.

Fuller details may be viewed on the web page which I use to record what has been done so far.
The page is rather long and has many pictures and you may click on this link to view; My gold case making project

I did not do all of this work myself and credits go to, Jason Muir - goldsmith, Dick Chapman - engraver, Geoff Thomson - shagreen work. All Australian artisans.

I would be interested in hearing from others who have an interest in this type of work, especially anyone with knowledge on making of, or supplier of, pique pins required to complete the shagreen case decoration.
Also need beetle and poker hands.

Regards,Barry Parker

All three cases, champleve dial and beetle and poker hands are made from scratch.

The steel hand blanks turned, shaped by hand, tempered and blued.

Repousse case is cast 10K gold for tougher wearing and is engraved and chased.

Inner case, display case and champleve dial are both 18K gold.

Only the George Graham verge movement #4834 is original and it had an incorrect white enamel dial when I purchased that.

A bit heavy to carry at about 7 ounces all up.
