Help with an Illinois 17 Jewel Pocket watch "Click" to Login or Register
posted
My mother-in-law gave this watch her late husband had to my toddler. It looked too nice to be a toy so I started doing some research to find out more about it. Here is what I have found, but I'm not familiar with all the lingo and specifics and I could not find any other photo examples to compare it to:

Movement S/N: 2564909
Text on Movement: Illinois Springfiled 17 jewel
Text on the Case the movement sits in A23652
Movement is approx 1 1/8"
Case is 1 3/4"
Inside of Case lid: Wadsworth Warantee 20 years 1823652

Thanks!

Welcome to IHC 185!
It's 0 size, 2nd model grade 37, made in 1913. It's a hunter case movement but yours is in an "opera" case, gold -filled. The case brings a small movement up to the same size as a 12-size watch which is a common "dress watch" size. The size is the diameter of the pillar (dial side)plate in 30ths of an inch plus 5/30 inches. Your 0-size is 1 5/30 inches in diameter, and a 12-size would be 1 17/30 inches.
