I'm trying to build a database of South Bend movement pictures. The format I've decided on is 600x600 jpg pictures. If you want to make it a little bigger up to one side can be 650 pixels. Eventually I'll be hosting them on the southbendhorology site. So I'm asking anyone that would care to post a picture to please do so as long as it is in jpg format and the largest side (height or width) is no more than 650 pixels. Of course, I'll start with a Grade 217, sn# 640662:

Very worthwhile project, I'll help in any way I can. Smile

Here is a fairly common Grade 215 number 569136 which is a Model 2, Pendant-Set example of which about 20,000 were produced.

So if you go to southbendhorology and scroll down to the bottom of the page you'll see that the images are being linked in. Please feel free to put up pictures of movements where the Grade has already been represented if you think you have a better picture.

Next up a 21-Jewel "The Studebaker" Grade 229 Lever-Set Railroad Watch, which was the very best South-Bend Model 2, 16-size Open-Face movement. This one, number 584064 from about 1909 was the 64th one blocked out of only 3,000 produced.

Next up, the Model 1 Grade 291. The 291 was the first 16s watch produced by the new South Bend Company. The one pictured is the 109th 16s to come off the production line.

I hate to be picky but the format of the picture should be as close to 600x600 as possible without any of the dimensions being larger than 600 (pixels). The pictures are going up on the SouthBendHorology site for now but are meant to be eventually included as part of the serial number lookup program.

Also, just because a particular Grade of movement has already been posted please feel free to post another if you think you have a better picture. Thanks!

Keith, haven't seen any pictures from your collection. I know you have a few of the very hard to get models like the 304.

The low-end entry into the market for South Bend, the 7j Grade 261. Between the 260 and the 261 about 40k watches total were produced. South Bend watches seemed to sell in pretty equal percentages across the quality range.

Here's a first run 290. There were about 12k total produced although as with most hunting movements it's hard to find one in a proper case. And it's only going to get worse with the price of gold now.

A typical Grade 333 except for the private label marking. As far as I can tell there weren't many PL movements produced by South Bend. As for the 333, about 12k of them were made.

The Grade 280. Excluding the 0s movements the 280 was the highest number of hunting case movements produced, about 16k.
