Hamilton 950/952 hard to wind "Click" to Login or Register

I've had this thing apart about 10 times trying to sort out the stiff winding. The crown wheel and barrel wheel rotate fine, the crown and stem rotate smooth.. but as soon as I put a spring in it, the thing is a bear to wind... acts like the spring is way too strong for the watch.

I've put a #534 spring in it, but am not convinced it isn't too stout for this watch. This is the 952 that left Hamilton as a 950 that I posted about a few months ago.

OK, so now on attempt #11 to sort this one out, I managed to blow out the upper barrel jewel...

I'll post for a replacement in parts wanted.
