This is one of very few examples of complete Ball-Hamilton "Brotherhood of Locomotive
Firemen & Enginemen" with appropriate matching dial that we are aware of at this time.

All the 21-Jewel Ball-Hamilton Brotherhoods are rare and this one from 1908 is among
the most difficult to find. The example shown below is from the Larry Buchan collection.

I have, an identical watch in my collection, we verified 17, 19 and 21-Jewel examples.

"Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers"

This dial has a period-correct "Ball Watch Co. Cleveland" signature like the movement
and this BofLE dial also has 24-hour numerals which makes it a very unusual item.

By this time sales were slowing for 18-size watches in general and these Brotherhoods
with their premium prices attached were evidently not an easy sale. For example, this
particular movement was produced in 1910 but did not leave the vault at Hamilton for
four years, finally making a 1914 journey to the Ball Watch facility in Cleveland, Ohio.

The word "rare" is often misused in our hobby. Certain of the Ball-Hamilton Brotherhoods
were produced in small numbers which is also true of the 18-size 23-Jewel Ball-Hamilton.

Only 100 numbers from 644301 through 644400 were blocked circa 1910 to produce
these very rare 23-Jewel Ball Hamilton movements such as you see illustrated below.

This is one of only 10 that are known to have survived at this time.

Here is 923040 from the last run ever of the 18-size Ball-Hamilton watches which were
from 923001-923500 during 1911 production. That last 500 would be the end, period.
