Hamilton 935 "The Banner" question. "Click" to Login or Register

First and foremost I never new Hamilton made a "Banner" 935 as it is not listed in The Price guide. The serial number shows it as a 935 in the Gelson list and in The Price Guide. The Banner in question looks just like any other Banner. It is #39807 out of a run of 200 from 39701 to 39900. My question is, would the whole run of 200 all be "The Banner" 935's or would just part of that run be 935's and how would you find out?

Thanks,
Harry

I do not know how you would tell how many were marked "Banner" Harry. I would be very surprised if 200 were marked "Banner" in the same run. As the Banner's were probably a private label for one particular Jeweller and the cost of the whole run would have been astronomical.

Harry, the Hamilton ledgers show that #s 39701 through 39800 are 935s but #s 39801 through 39835 are 927s and 39836 through 39900 are again 935s. In addition to Gelson's list the error of miss identifying these serial numbers as 935s also exists in Col. Townsend's Handwritten Serial numbers and Lasser's list of Hamilton serial numbers. Of the 35 927s in this group 32 were sold to Stein Ellbogen in Chicago and are probably all Banners. Lowell Halligan's notes states that there were a total of 535 927 Banners and no 935 Banners.

Thank you both. So Robert The Gelson list shows all 200 as 935's and does not specify if any of them are Banners. Same for The Price Guide.

So the Hamilton ledger shows #39701 - 3900 are 935's and then 39801 - 39835 as 927's. Like you say probably all 35 are Banners but the ledger shows at least 32 as 927 Banners.

So where does the Gelson list note that the 35 were listed as 935's in error? And you say Col. Townsend, Lasser's and Halligan all agree that #39801 -39835 were and are miss identified as 935's?

Thanks,
Harry

Thanks Roger. If the case was white gold filled I would have given $225/$250 for the nice hunter case however since the 935 Banner was questionable the case could have been rhodium plated to look like white gold filled since I see no manufacturing hallmark on it. I think she did well considering that it may be and probably is a 927.

I feel the same way Harry. A very attractive case but as you stated, metal content unknown. And the questionable Gr. was what kept me away from it.

I am not upset Roger. I purchased a Hamilton 950 for $400 with just a picture of the front and back of the watch with no description. I hit a home run. It is running and is the much less produced pendant set. It has the Old English DS dial with a hairlines but it is all original with a triple hing Hamilton Permanent Quality case with Hamilton Watch Co. Lancaster, Pa. on the curvet. #1020912 Gelson list it as 1914 -1917. I never figured I would own a 950 because I would not pay the price people wanted for them but this one I rolled the dice and won.
